Party season: How to stick to a workout routine when things get busy

Cosy season is nearly upon us and with it comes Christmas shopping, parties, traveling, and endless to-do lists! It’s easy to feel like time is running away with us and often you’ll find you end up sacrificing your workout time to fit it all in.

Staying active through the holidays doesn’t have to mean squeezing in hour-long workouts or missing out on Christmas drinks with the girls. With the right approach, you can stay moving, feeling energised, and ready to tackle every ‘to do’ on your list. Here are some tips to keep you on track.

Think Shorter, not missed

When the schedule gets tight, committing to a full-length workout might feel impossible but instead of missing it altogether, aim for shorter, effective sessions that pack a punch in less time. A 15 - 20 minute workout can deliver incredible results when you’re working through movements that engage multiple muscle groups. HIIT sessions, cardio bursts, and pure Barre workouts are ideal for getting that boost without taking up an hour.

Tip: Use the filter tool on The Barre Coach APP to search for 15-20 minute long sessions so you can prioritise short classes without getting stuck in the dreaded scroll hole!

Plan workouts around events

All the type A’s amongst you, now is your time to shine! This time of year is normally packed with events and activities so it’s time for us to make you a plan! If you have a party in the evening, try a quick morning workout to start your day with energy. Traveling? Consider a bodyweight routine you can do at the in-laws. Schedule your workouts in your calendar on the app so you know exactly what you’re doing and when you’re doing it.

Tip: Prioritise bodyweight-only classes so you can make it as easy as possible to get on the mat while you’re away from home and out of your normal routine. Take a peek at The Barre Coach APP bodyweight classes here.

Grab your Christmas accountability partner

Whether it’s a friend, family member, or virtual workout partner, having someone to check in with can keep you accountable and motivated. Motivate each other to stay moving so the January mountain doesn’t feel quite as hard to climb!

Tip: Make sure you’ve joined The Barre Coach WhatsApp group and benefit from all our lovely cheerleaders working through the same sessions as you in a bid to stay moving through the Christmas period.

Quality Over Quantity

Something that feels as good for the body as it does the mind - slow, controlled and intentional movements. If you’re stuck for time then making sure you are being intentional with your movements will help you get the most out of each exercise. Short, focused sessions done with intention are far more effective than longer workouts done on autopilot!

Tip: Try this Pilates-inspired class that will give you the space to slow things down and intentionally work through the movements.

Make time for relaxation

The holidays are about enjoying yourself, so make sure to balance your active moments with some well-deserved rest. Use your workouts as a way to energise yourself for Christmas activities or as a way to unwind with some deep stretching and lovely breathwork or meditation.

Tip: Try this Barre & Meditate session for the perfect combo of energising and unwinding.

Try and think of workouts as little boosts of energy rather than just another item on your to-do list. By staying flexible, shortening your sessions, and incorporating a little creativity, you’ll keep your fitness on track and feel great all November/December long—no matter how packed the schedule gets!
